The Most Effective Way to Stay on Your Diet with Minimal Effort

The inspiration occurred to me recently while my girlfriend and I were house-sitting for her sister.

She generously offered anything that was in her fridge to us as a thank you. So at some point in the night we got hungry and went to check out what there was.

I was very impressed by the food items I saw. They were basically all brands that I like or foods that are minimally processed and represent pretty clean eating.

Things like Applegate Farm’s meats, Sir Kensington’s condiments, different protein drinks, etc. It was funny too because I had no idea their family cared about healthy eating.

When I saw this, however, it struck me that this is quite similar to how my fridge and pantry looks. The only difference was that this fridge was stocked full and very aesthetically-pleasing. This is most likely because the mom buys good stuff for her, her husband, and their two kids.

So I made the connection that this is basically how I (and presumably other families) stay on healthy diets. When the only options you have in your fridge and pantry are positive and healthy and you eat most of your meals at home, you’re all set!

On top of that, and this is where the inspiration came from, you can stock up your home to be full of great options so it’s aesthetically-pleasing and exciting to be eating at home.

You feel abundant and like there are a bunch of great options when you open up a fridge packed with healthy, exciting options.

I realized this is a lot like my pantry at home. I have nothing but different nuts, nut butters, healthy oils, collagen powders, and low-sugar chocolate treats in there.

It’s easy to eat healthy when there are a bunch of options right in front of you and they’re all exciting. I love seeing my little stash of collagen powders and picking out which I’m going to use each time. It feels luxurious. Or eating a chocolate bar with no sugar and spreading coconut butter on it as a guilt-free treat.

I have a little saying in my head that ‘I eat for free at home.’ I go out grocery shopping and pick up only essential things to stock up my fridge and pantry with. Then when I’m at home, I have the mindset that I’m just picking out food from a healthy buffet.

It gets me excited and having fun with the whole process. There’s no limiting part to eating well when you think about it in this way.
